NTN East (CVJ East) — Columbus plant closure & worker impact

Filed under: manufacturing · layoffs · Bartholomew County

I'm Gary Amick, owner of That Computer Guy 26 / TCG Solutions and Indiana Businesses Exposed. I'm writing this article to bring transparency to the situation at NTN East (CVJ East) in Columbus, Indiana, and to explain how the closure and job reductions affect workers, families, and our community.

NTN East, also known as CVJ East, announced a ramp-down and partial closure of its Columbus facility in early 2026. The company cited global restructuring, shifts in supply-chain demand, and cost-reduction measures as reasons for shrinking operations and reducing its workforce. Public notices and internal communications indicate that hundreds of employees received layoff notices, with remaining shifts scheduled to wind down over several months. The plant, which once employed over a thousand people, now operates at a fraction of its previous capacity.

What workers are entitled to

The federal WARN Act (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) may apply when a plant reduces its workforce by a certain number within a short period, and companies are supposed to notify employees 60 days in advance. In practice, many workers report that they received short notice, unclear explanations, or verbal rather than written information. Unemployment benefits, severance (if offered), and re-training programs can help displaced workers and their families.

The community ripple

The NTN East closure ripples into local restaurants, gas stations, churches, and small businesses that relied on NTN employees as customers. Families are forced to cut budgets, cancel subscriptions, and re-evaluate housing and transportation just as they lose their primary source of income. There's also the emotional toll: anxiety around job hunting later in life, fear of never finding equivalent pay, and the stress of watching neighbors and coworkers struggle.
